Talking Book Machine model A-74 playing 16RPM audio book record - Library for the Blind
The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Disabled (a part of the Library of Congress) record player and audio book. The 16RPM speed format was developed for audio books (since the lower audio quality was negligible for a single spoken voice as opposed to a music recording). Audio book "The Three Edwards" by Thomas B. Costain - a written history of England during the time of the Grandfather, Edward I, through the son, Edward II, and the grandson, Edward III.

Red Raven Magic Mirror Records were a children's toy of the 1950s. They used a series of specially made vinyl 78 RPM records with a very large label which reflected off an angled spinning mirror which resembled a carousel which was placed over the spindle of the player, giving the illusion of motion. This variation of a praxinoscope (a zoetrope successor) was developed by Morgan Development Lab...

I inherited mine from my grandparents. I even have the order sheet. They are amazing
What is the name and model of this? I love this!
😮😮😮😮how is possible????
I knew I remembered something about a magpie flying as I listened to a record when I was a kid...
ua-cam.com/video/pOBXlK9r5Zo/v-deo.htmlsi=CpIeIPYlMhvy-4mA sound....
In a early wax tapes how long can it be recording
Edison made machines that played either 2-minute or 4-minute cylinders.
Isn’t the Edison character the actor from the Chapelle Show? Father from the Real World Hoboken skit?!
By coincidence I just played this same disc! Your machine sounds Great! I imagine your reproducer is rebuilt?😊
Wow, this brought back memories! We had an old record player and my Mom would play these for me. I couldn't have been more than 3 or so...
Sounds like something from the 60s
That recording would last longer than any mobile phone
Wow, I sold one exactly like this one on eBay back in 2009 (I think). A couple years later I bought another one at a local flea market here in San Antonio for $150 but just needs to have the disc platter re-flocked and a new diaphragm installed, both of which I’m able to do. Can’t believe how expensive these have become in the past decade. Yours is in excellent shape.
these are so cool but why not play the record
It's not a record, there are no groves. It is solely used for visual.
Привет из 2023 👋👋👋
OK, how were they mass produced ?
They weren't originally They were usually recorded multiple times at first, but the galvanoplastic process was created (making casted wax records possible) Soon after, the gramophone would come out
Rotate that needle a little bit to the right soundbetter
BRAVÓ !
i remember visiting edison’s lab in the ford museum and greenfield village. the brought out a phonograph and did a recording of “ mary had a little lamb.” when it played back… i was blown away. i had shivers. it was so cool. i could hear the woman’s voice. in that cylinder. no electronics. so. FREAKING. COOL! my little nerd brain exploded. i imagine that’s how people of that day felt when the heard RECORDED SOUND!!!!!!!! 🤯🤯
🎉🎉🎉🎉America
You sounded like somebody had a gun to your head. 🥴🔫
Track name : "Fledermaus-Quadrille" (Johann Strauss II) : 1. und 2. Tour Recorded at early 1921 ["1 at" is February 1921], at Berlin, matrix is "31 at". (Reverse side is 3. Tour, mx "32 at" [2-27044 (30456)] // "33 at" for 4. Tour [2-27045 (30457)] // "34 at" for 5. Tour [2-27046 (30457)] Orchestra probably conducted by Bruno-Seidler Winkler
Do you have the equipment to recreate 50s recordings?
If you're interested, Sound On Sound Magazine's youtube channel has a great video on recording on 1950s equipment. "Recording in a 1950s Recording Studio".
How many springs was this motor?
This was an electric motor.
SO cool. Can't beat "hands on" -anything. Wondering if they dropped the cylinder into an ice bath might it help with crisper playback??
I thought this was referred to as a victor talking macine
Why aren't you playing the music?
It's not a record, there are no groves. It is solely used for visual.
@@Phonophan Oh I see. Ours were records and the song matched the movie. I still have two!
Perfectly clear
Sorry for the stupid question but where do I screw on the Weltron 2001? I don't see any screws anywhere, just weird holes.
great
great experiment! great reproduction!
Great sound, nice machine Tim
So each roll holds about 10 minutes of recording?
No. Either two minutes or four minutes
I read 'autistic recording' 😁
Una poronga 😄😄😄
Impressive! This was a huge breakthrough during its time. Before this invention no human or living thing was able to hear recorded and reproduced sound of any type.
How do you mass produce records? Seems like the artist has to be physically present to record onto each cylinder
At first yeah, that's what they had to do. A moulding process was eventually worked out though.
It’s pretty much the same process as how records are made. The cylinder recording in this video would create the “master disc” (in this case it’s a cylinder) and then a mold would be created of it, and then the liquid wax or soap would be filled into the molds.
I had one of these when I was little, I used to play the little white duck for hours. I am lucky my sister didn't kill me. B side was the little engine that could.

I always find it strange when I see such a clear image in UA-cam video before 2010.
Better than my nokia recorder
Esta super bueno
Amazing, thank you
🥰🥰🥰
If I am not mistaken, the original rendition was in the key of C and the final one seems to be in C + 30 cents, i.e., only a minor pitch shift. I didn’t note if there was a tempo shift but if it was there, it was pretty likely minor. But the recording did manage to make the guitar sound a bit like a mandolin and ig somewhat altered the singer’s timbre as well. Goes to show you that different harmonics are "caught" to different extents on the wax. Still overall, an unimaginable and near-magical feat.
It's analog, so a chance in pitch is accompanied with an equivalent change in tempo.

Someone ought to make a Netflix series on the gramophone. I mean like a docu-drama. 🥺
